Biography

Every story has a beginning and my own story strarted in the warm glow of the red sky and golden waters of Cádiz's sunset as I was raised and educated on this "island" with a population of only 100k. Photography was always a father&son activity for me... long walks on the beach and journeys through the woods, always looking for some wild animals or insects.

When I arrived to London on my gap year, I felt all the limitations of living in a small Spanish town, just fading away. I felt true freedom. This cosmopolitan city, full of anything and everything, quickly left me no other choice but to stay. Having found this creative paradise, I have decided to work on my photography skills until I can perform at the highest professional level.

But enough about my life, all you need to know is my name : Jose Maria Romero Rodriguez, but everyone calls me "Arky".

When defining oneself as a photographer, there is always a risk of falling into the "3 categories" type of work as we tend to stick to what we know best, but I don't see photography as just technical skill with a bonus social aspect. No. I see photography as that moment when you're comfortably sitting on a porch, watching the waves breaking on the beach, holding your favourite drink, losing all sense of time...

What motivates me the most is my desire to catch through my lenses the most fleeting of moments, to capture the most deep and meaningful times. I want my pictures to show and inspire feelings, I want them to reflect the world for the beautiful mess that it is and I can not wait to see what wonderful future journeys my camera will take me on!

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
